Stromboli: monitoring of volcanic activity on the island continues

The activities involving territorial surveillance, monitoring of volcanic activity, and maintenance of instruments for detecting volcanic signals are ongoing on the island of Stromboli. Particular attention is being paid to assessing hydraulic risk due to ash accumulation in the volcano’s summit area.

Regional Civil Protection and Department of Civil Protection teams are currently operating from the Coa-Advanced Operations Center. They coordinate various activities in collaboration with the local municipal structure with support from the Centres of Competence (INGV and the University of Florence) and the operational teams working in the area.

Following the meeting of the National Commission for the Forecasting and Prevention of Major Risks – Volcanic Risk Sector on July 12, the red alert level issued on July 4 remains in force. This is due to the eruption and subsequent fall of ashes on the island, as well as the falling of volcanic material into the sea along the Sciara del Fuoco.

The protective measures mandated by the Mayor of Lipari to safeguard the population are still in effect on the island.
